Homework - Term Three WEEK ONE
  • Reading/Inquiry (due Monday 3rd August)
  • You should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes a night 5 nights this week. Reading for this week should include reading for enjoyment - try persuasive texts. A sample of you will be selected to do an oral reading from your homework (e.g. read with expression and fluency a passage from this week's book). 
    Please keep a log in your homework books of your reading and have signed by your parents.

Remember that ICAS Maths and IKAN is in week 4!!

Our focus for this term is Propaganda. There are a number of tasks to complete this week to develop our knowledge on the subject.

Homework - Holidays
  • Reading
READ, READ, READ!!! Read as much as you can! You should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes every single day. Read for pleasure or read for information... just read!
Remember our unit is Propaganda!!
  • Maths
Do a little bit regularly... Your effort should be spend on working on your Number Knowledge and Strategies (arithmetic). If you are wanting to work on something, look at your algebra (early algebra).


  • Maths (due Monday 20th July)
Create a propaganda message about yourself or a recommended member of your group for F.P.S. The advertisement should showcase your skills as a team member but also use propaganda technique and persuasive techniques. It can be visual, audio or a moving picture and last approximately 30 seconds.
There should be a plan and draft completed as part of this too! Good luck and share when you have completed this.

While this is not a large task, it is about quality. Please don't hand in a rushed piece of work that is not worthy!!!

Students are to pick an item and write a text to sell this item. Be creative and be persuasive. I WANT to be persuaded upon reading your text!!!

Support your argument with 3 well elaborated reasons.

Expectations - 
  • To write a complete explanation (max 5 paragraphs) using appropriate writing process (plan, draft, edit, revise).
  • Highlight at least 10 words that you have changed to improve your explanation
  • In a separate colour, carefully highlight 3 sentences that you have improved (these should have variety and uniqueness about them)
  • Underline (using colouring pencil and ruler) an example of each language feature that you use
  • Include a number of persuasive text features
W.A.L.T - develop paragraphs using appropriate language to persuade.

  • Write these words in the form of a noun, adjective, verb, adverb
  • Find synonyms and antonyms for these words
  • Break the word into parts and see what those parts look like and sound like

Students are to write a persuasive argument about the NZ Flag. Should New Zealand change their flag. For or against? 
OR
Pick a possible flag design and persuade your audience on why this should be New Zealand's new flag.

As you are aware we are currently writing a diary from Gallipoli as part of our writing programme. The competition requirements request 7 entries in the diary. Please complete 3 entries for your diary over the week. These entries are to be planned, drafted, revised and brought to school upon completion.

Please keep a log of your reading. You are expected to read on average 20 minutes per night, 4 nights a week. As well as the log there is an extra task in which you are to complete a tic tac toe organiser to show that you are reading and variety of material and thinking about it.

You are to write a persuasive pice of writing or a discussion in which you discuss with evidence the impact of social media. It should include:
- your opinion on social media with supporting evidence (incl. reference list)
- plan, draft, evidence of editing, revising and self evaluation.
Please hand in all elements of this writing. A digital version may be handed in as a published copy as long as the original drafts, revising and editing is also handed in.

Read the post on homework and comment your thoughts. Your comments should show insight and justification.
  • Question Master Presentation  (due on Wednesday 11 February)
Ensure use of colour, images, minimal word use; it must capture person’s character & interests, and be original.
Focus on:
- the depth of material gathered
- the presentation quality 
  • Desk Mat (due Tuesday 17 February)
Must include colour, images and your name, while using the rule of thirds. 
Your mat must capture your passions and ambitions through the use of 3 - 5 key words that capture your aims for the year (e.g. dedicated, motivated)
The mat must display the thinking in some way.
The STARS must be evident and it should represent who you are (family, background etc).
